Isle of Cumbrae recreated in video game Minecraft 20 April 2021 As part of a project to teach young people about the region's history, the Isle of Cumbrae was recreated in Minecraft. Students at Abertay University in Dundee built Cumbraecraft inspired by the popular Ayrshire coast tourist spot. The game contains eight lessons aimed at primary school children. Garrison House, Lion Rock Garrison House, Lion Rock, and Cathedral of the Isles are among the locations that are featured on the virtual island. Crocodile Rock, the port and the Millport library are also explorable in the game. It can be used in both home-learning and classroom settings. Games students Claire Monaghan, Fergus Coyne and Romain Bourdon were involved in the project for three months while attending Abertay's School of Design and Informatics. The current travel restrictions hindered the trio from visiting the island prior to starting their work. They had to rely on images as their sole source. The game is part of a regeneration scheme being delivered by North Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland.minecraft servers The council's regeneration officer Kasia Smith said she was "thrilled" that the game was accessible to students. She stated: "Cumbrae has such a rich history , and it is so important that our young people learn about their community's heritage. "Our Millport Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme has proved to be a real success in preserving historical elements of the island and Cumbraecraft has allowed us to reach out to a younger audience."
