  • User Description: To run a Minecraft server, you need to download its zip file from Minecraft's official website. It contains server files for Windows and Ubuntu. It can be unzipped using your default file explorer, or you can use WinZip and WinRar software. Note: The Alpha phase of Bedrock's server software remains in effect as of March 20,22. So, there can be a variety of bugs that are to be resolved before the final release. Run the Minecraft Bedrock Server The Minecraft server doesn't need to be installed before hosting it. This is unlike a Java Server. Let's begin by unzipping the server files. Ubuntu Each Linux OS has a "terminal", which allows you to run custom commands. Make sure your system runs at least Ubuntu 18 or an equivalent. MINECRAFT To launch the server, run the following command. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./bedrock_server If the command fails, try replacing the "bedrock_server" part of it with the unzipped folder's name and then run it again. Once you have successfully run the command, you are able to jump onto the server and play. Windows These steps will help you create a Minecraft Bedrock server for Windows: 1. First, we need to exempt Minecraft from UWP loopback restrictions. It prevents the UWP apps (like Minecraft Bedrock) from connecting to the local server. To do this, right-click on the command prompt to open it as an admin or choose the option directly in the sub-menu. 2. Then, within the command prompt, paste the following command and hit enter. CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -a -p=S-1-15-2-1958404141-86561845-1752920682-3514627264-368642714-62675701-733520436 You can close the command prompt after executing the command. 3. Next, double click on the unzipped folder and right-click to open the "bedrock_server.exe". 4. Windows will launch its firewall immediately after you open the server folder. Make sure that you have selected both the "private" as well as "public" networks options. Next, click the "allow access" button. 5. Once the Firewall accepts the exception you made, the server will start running in the command prompt. Open System Port Now that you have both your OS (and firewall) ready to invite other Minecraft players, it is time for the router to be installed. Yes, we will get into technical stuff a bit more than in the previous section. Our easy-to follow steps will get your Minecraft Bedrock Server up and running. Find Server IP Addresses & IPv6 addresses Before anything else, we need details about the platform which hosts the Minecraft Bedrock servers. To do so, open Command Prompt and type the following command. ipconfig /all It will display both your IPv4 address as well as IPv6 address in the prompt. You have two options: either keep the window open or you can write them down for later. Some routers require the default gateway address instead of IPv6 so you can note that down too. System Port Settings A system port is the gateway through which other players can connect to your online server. To allow other players to use your router's system ports, we must change them. Each router manufacturer has its own UI and settings dashboard. We can't cover all of them so we recommend that you visit SetupRouter.com to learn how to open your Port Forwarding settings. Enter Server Details Finally, assuming that you have reached the system port settings of your router, you need to look for and click on "add service" or "create new" or a similarly named button. Next, enter these details into your router. - Server/Service/Port name: Minecraft Server. Start Port:19132 - End Port :19132 - Type of Service: TCP/UDP Minecraft Bedrock's default IP ID is "19132". If there are columns that have "port" in their names, you can enter the same ID. Moreover, the router might also require you to enter an IP Address, IPv6 Address, or default gateway address. Your IP address is the same IPv4 address you previously noted via the command prompt along with the other addresses. Invite Friends: Find your Public IP Address To join any dedicated Minecraft Bedrock server, you only need the host's public IP address. Fortunately, because of port forwarding, the public IP address won't reveal any of your private information. You can search Google for "what my IP" to get the exact same information. Your public IP address will be displayed in the search results. You need to copy it and share it with your friends that want to join the server. As you will see, you will also need it to join your Minecraft Bedrock Server. How to Join the Minecraft Bedrock Server Now that your server is up and running, it's the time to test it. The steps below are the same for you and your friends that want to join the server. Let's get started by opening Minecraft Bedrock. 1. Click on "Play" from the homepage. 2. Next, click on Servers in the top column to load all active server. 3. Scroll down to server section and click "add server". 4. To join the server you will need to enter the details. You can name the server anything you like. The port number is 19132 unless you change it in the server properties. The server address is the same address as your public IP address. Customize Your Minecraft Bedrock Server Now that your server has been set up, it's time you customize it. A server automatically loads a vanilla survival environment, which is great for playing Minecraft seeds. However, this is not enough to make your server a hit. Let's now look at our customization options. Server Properties Modifying the world properties is the easiest way to customize a server. You can open the "server.properties" file in notepad to do so. It is located within the unzipped folder, from which you run the world. You can edit the following properties to modify your world: Game mode, Survival, Creative, Adventure, and related settings Cheats and difficulty Maximum number of players and conditions for joining Server settings World properties Players' abilities Resource Packs and Worlds Change the appearance of a server is one way to make it stand out. To do this, you can download one of the most popular textures or resource packs and place it in your "resource pack folder". You can also use custom Minecraft map by placing them into the "worlds” folder. This will give you pre-built worlds you can share with your friends. Server Commands Commands work in Minecraft like cheats in other games. They basically give you almost developer-like power to change everything about your world without leaving the game. These commands can be used to modify server properties. We have a dedicated guide for Minecraft Bedrock commands that you can refer to for making the most out of this feature. Close Your Minecraft Bedrock server You and your friends can quit playing the game by closing it. But this won't save the progress. Instead, open the command prompt window that is running on your server. Next, type "stop" into the command prompt and hit enter. The server will immediately close and save all the progress and changes you have made to its world. This must be done each time you want your server to close and save its progress.
